Introduction

This project represents the culmination of extensive work and study, showcasing my skills in 3D simulations, modeling, lighting, design, sound design and concept development.

It draws upon multiple months of experience and a commitment to quality, bringing together a deep understanding of both creative and technical aspects of 3D animation to deliver impactful results that demonstrate my abilities as a 3D artist and a freelance.

The overall idea was to make a demo reel which showcases all my skills that I acquired to this point in 3D animation, but also has a creative concept and story telling behind and is entertaining to watch.

The watch

I started with a concept of a watch, inspired with some references of a few renown brands. I created a complete model of the watch from scratch, to use it in the final animation.

The 3D printer

The next thing to do was to create a futuristic concept of a 3D printer that had to pour the watch frame out of liquid metal and then all the assembly had to happen inside this device. So it was an important step in the hole project.

The keyboard

One of the first things we see in the full video is a computer screen and a keyboard. I modeled it entirely from scratch using some references.

The mouse

Next thing we see in the full video is the mouse, much as the keyboard it has an LED oriented design reminds of a gaming PC setup.

Conclusion

In the end, this was a quite tough but fulfilling experience. It was full of learning with its mistakes and plenty of research.

I learned how to make a workable pipeline with Houdini and Blender using Alembic and USD formats. Learned things that the software can and can not do and how to bypass it, to acomplish my vision and get the best result out of each software.
