The Idea

The video was a client project which showcases a nails clipper and it’ts features, like the special compartment for collecting the nails trims.

The model and the main storyboard of the video was already provided by the company. I just got to do the animation and customize the concept to fit it under 30 seconds.

Fake Nail Cut

One of the main thing was to create the animation of the nail cut, to showcase how it falls to the trim compartment. I modeled a fake nail looking like a plastic and made a shape morphing animation to do the bending at the moment when the blades penetrate the nail.

Multicam Render Script

A special challenge was the fact that Maya have a great tool to create a live video edit from the virtual cameras, but it doesn’t have a great way to render all the shots in one go.

So, I created a custom tool in python for Maya, to do just this. We can select one or multiple shots at a time or render them all at once.

Final animation

The final animation features a minimalist background, highlighting the sleek design of the product and has 5 different shots.
